Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate what I need on my final?
The formula is: Required Final Score = (Target Grade − Current Grade × (1 − Final Weight)) ÷ Final Weight. For example, if you have 75%, the final is worth 30%, and you want 80%, you need: (0.80 − 0.75 × 0.70) ÷ 0.30 = 91.7% on the final.
What if I need over 100% on my final?
If the result is over 100%, your target grade is mathematically out of reach with just the final exam. You may want to lower your target grade or ask your professor about extra credit opportunities.
How is a weighted grade calculated?
A weighted grade multiplies each assignment's score by its weight percentage, sums those values, then divides by the total weight. Use the "Current Grade" tab to do this automatically with all your assignments.
What if my final has no set weight?
If your syllabus doesn't specify, ask your professor. Common final exam weights are 20%, 25%, or 30%. If all assignments count equally, divide 100% by the total number of assignments to get each one's weight.
